Currently transitioning into a new self. That will probably be reflected in my writing and publishing schedule. If you want to read any particular topic, please reach out!
Why are there so many references in the Bible to 40 days and 40 nights?
What did this specific length of time mean to the ancients?
Between our and Venus’s orbits around the sun, Venus— the brightest celestial body in the sky besides the sun and moon— is retrograde for forty days. The planet of love and war disappears from visibility as she transitions from evening to morning star.
This transition is reflected in the Mesopotamian myths of Inanna-Ishtar, Queen of Heaven, descending into the underworld. This goddess’s story weaves and ripples into our Bibles under similar names, Astarte and Asherah, and by apocalyptic epithets like the Whore of Babylon.
According to these myths, the 40 days and 40 nights is when the goddess disappears into the underworld before returning in her full splendor.
What happens in her absence?
According to the Bible: Floods. Goliath challenges Israel. Moses meets God on the mountain. Jesus meets the devil in the desert. Hebrews spies explore Canaan. 40 days between the Crucifixion and the Ascension.
Particularly important things happen in this length of 40 days. And they occur every 18 months.
Venus is retrograde now until she returns (like Jesus) as Lucifer, Morning Star on September 3.
These stories don’t just occur in the past, but recur throughout our lives.
What’s going on for you right now?
Perhaps some of these Bible stories might bring some insight feelings that have stirred since the goddess’s leave.
